JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Asses, plan, organize and participate in rehabilitation program for patients at the KEM Hospital that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength and decrease or prevent deformity of patients suffering from disease or injury.
- Provide educational information about the physical therapy and injury prevention, Ergonomics and ways to promote health.
- Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.
- Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating the data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention.
- Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefits.
- Administer exercise therapy or electrotherapy to help relieve pain, increase the patient’s strength and decrease or prevent deformity and crippling.
- Instruct patient and family regarding treatment procedures to be continued at home.
- Confer with the patient, medical practitioners and appropriate others to plan, implement and assess the intervention program.
- Review physicians referral and patient’s medical records to help determine diagnosis and physical therapy treatment required.
- Record prognosis, treatment, response and progress in patient’s chart or enter information in computer.
- Obtain patient’s informed consent for proposed interventions.
- Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow up care for referrals.
- Test and measure patient’s strength, motor development and function, sensory perception, function, sensory perception functional capacity, respiratory and circulatory efficiency and record data.
- Identify and document goals, anticipated progress and plans for re-evaluation.
- Provide information to the patient about the proposed intervention, its material risks and expected benefits and any reasonable alternatives.
- Inform the patient when diagnosis reveals findings outside their scope and refer to an appropriate practitioner.
- Direct and supervise supportive personnel, assessing their competence, delegating specific tasks to them and establishing channels of communication.
- Administer treatment involving application of physical agents using equipment, moist packs, ultraviolet and infra-red lamps and ultrasound machines.
- Teach physical therapy to students as well as those in health professions.
- Evaluate, fit and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modification to orthotics.
- Conduct and support research and apply research findings to practice.
- Direct group rehabilitation activities. Providing customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Selecting and using training/ instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
- Analyzinginformation and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
- Using relevant information and individual judgement to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations and standards.
- Home Visits for physiotherapy session as and when required.
- Home Visits need to be done as part of the routine duties.
- The Home Visits done during the duty hours will not be given any additional remuneration.
- Visits from the hospital have to be informed to the HOD, they will be provided packages and the percentage should be agreed.
- Any other work/responsibility assigned by the HOD/Management in the course of business/work whether within the same unit/dept or any other unit/dept from time to time
