EXPERIENCE:
- 0 to 2 years

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proper pre donation counseling and taking of donor’s medical history.
- Pre donation medical examination. This work is complementary to the work of Staff Nurse.
- Phlebotomy
- Post donation care and manage post donation reaction.
- Verifying:
- a) The blood group donor, patient, done by Jr. Technician / Sr. Technician / Technical Supervisor.
- b) Cross match of donor’s blood with patient’s sample done by Technical Staff.
- c) Test results of HIV I & II, HBSAg, HCV, MP, VDRL,
- Atypical Ab, Haemoysin done by Technical Staff.
- Supervise discarding of reactive blood units and blood units which need to be discarded for any other cause and ensure proper documentation according to F.D.A. guidelines.
- Preserve and maintain the data of CMS.
- Supervise the proper preservation of donor sample for 35 days / 42 days depending on the expiry of the PCV/WB unit or for 8 days after the unit is issued whichever is earlier and patient’s sample for 8 days after received it.
- Supervise the tests performed on donor units that have cause post transfusion reaction and enter the cause of reaction if possible and guide accordingly.
- Supervise the Quality Control of the blood products, reagents and kits.
- Supervise issue of blood and blood components.
- Supervise issue of blood products as per expiry.
- Decision about what blood group, which component to be issued in case of problem patients like indeterminate group and incompatible cross match.
- Documentation with proper note from respective consultant about taking responsibility for transfusion reaction and about informed consent from patient’s relative in case of problem patient.
- Prepare Standard Operative Procedure.
- Documentation of costs incurred for donor refreshment.
- Ensure that donor receive certificate and greeting card.
- Keep track of blood and blood products coming from outside blood bank and take corrective action like arranging a particular group donor through social worker in case it is observed that it is coming from outside a lot.
- Inform management if blood has come from unauthorized blood bank.
- Ensure that all activities are done as per SOP and all documentation is complete and proper and preserve all the required data in the computer.
- B. T.O is responsible for all final decision making and smooth working of the department as per S.O.P. and guide and supervise the work of Technical Supervisor, Coordinator, Staff Nurse, Sr. Technician, Jr. Technician, Clerk, Attendant and Sweeper.
- Any other work/responsibility assigned by the HOD/Management in the course of business/work whether within the same unit/dept or any other unit/dept from time to time
