Perfusionist

QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelors Degree in Perfusion Technology / Cardiac Perfusion Technology

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 – 3 Years

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Operate the heart–lung machine during open-heart and cardiothoracic surgeries.
  • Manage cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), myocardial protection, and circulatory support systems.
  • Monitor and regulate blood flow, oxygenation, temperature, and anticoagulation during procedures.
  • Assist in procedures involving ECMO, IABP, VADs, and other extracorporeal support systems, where applicable.
  • Coordinate closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthetists, and OT nursing staff during surgeries.

Pre- and Post-Operative Duties

  • Perform pre-operative checks of perfusion equipment and disposables.
  • Prepare perfusion circuits and prime systems as per protocol.
  • Ensure proper post-operative shutdown, cleaning, and documentation of equipment usage.

Equipment & Safety

  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot perfusion-related equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, biomedical waste management, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of consumables related to perfusion services.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate perfusion records, logs, and patient data as per hospital and NABH standards.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical meetings.

Training & Professional Development

  • Support training of junior perfusionists or OT staff, when required.
  • Stay updated with advancements in perfusion technology and best practices.

The role may require on-call duties and emergency support as and when needed and on a case to case basis

Any other work/responsibility assigned by the HOD/Management in the course of business/work whether within the same unit/dept or any other unit/dept from time to time.
