Pain Management Clinic
The Pain Management Clinic, is a sub-specialty of Anaesthesiology and has been operational at KEM Hospital, Pune since the 1970s. Our clinic deals with all types of chronic pain in children and adults, such as: chronic headache, migraine, Trigeminal neuralgia, Raynaud’s phenomenon, cervical spine pain (neck pain), thoracic spine pain (chest pain), lumbar spine pain (back pain), cancer pain, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis pain, Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), amputation pain, herpes zoster pain, pain from chronic regional syndrome, neurogenic pain, and autonomic neuropathy.
We are an active member of Indian Society of Study of Pain (ISSP), participating in various international and national conferences, seminars and workshops. Additionally, we conduct clinical meetings for members of the ISSP at our hospital.

KEM Hospital, Pune has a well-established Psychiatry Unit, which is part of the Department of
Medicine. We have a team of eminent psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and researchers who
are collaboratively involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental health
problems. We offer in-patient, out-patient, and liaison psychiatry along with psychological
assessments and therapies for adults, the elderly, children and families suffering from a range
of mental, addictive and emotional disorders.

The department has been an academic and teaching unit for over 35 years. We have also been

Child Guidance Clinic
Our weekly clinic has been operating for more than 15 years in collaboration with the
Paediatrics Department. It consists of a multi-disciplinary team comprising of a psychiatrist, a
paediatrician, psychologists, and social workers. The clinic also provides assessments and
reports required for organ transplant procedures.
Pulmonology (Chest & Allergy)
The Department of Pulmonology at KEM Hospital, Pune provides quality services by integrating cutting edge knowledge, rational and ethical principles, and state-of-the-art equipment for the management of respiratory diseases. We work in tandem with excellent allied services available in the hospital, e.g. Lung Resection Surgery, Pleural Surgery, Bronchial Artery Embolization, Thoracoscopy and more.

Rheumatology & Immunology
The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology deals with diseases that affect the immune system. Rheumatologic diseases are multi-systemic and thus our patients are often treated in joint care with physician experts in many specialties, such as medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedic surgery, respiratory medicine, neurology and gastroenterology amongst others. Young women with rheumatologic conditions may have poor pregnancy outcomes and thus we work with obstetrics and gynaecology in this regard.

Autoimmune disease
Autoimmune diseases occur when one’s own immune cells mount an attack on self-tissue. This is a group of disorders with various possible manifestations. Symptoms occur due to inflammation of the tissue being attacked. Common diseases include: rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, which present with joint swelling and pain, and multi-system disorders in which major organs like the kidneys, lungs and brain may be involved, such as lupus and vasculitis. With currently available medications, most diseases can be well controlled and patients can lead a normal life. Early treatment and monitoring ensures good outcomes.
Immunodeficiency disease
This group comprises of diseases where the immune system functions inadequately and renders the individual susceptible to infections. Infections occur frequently, in early life and involve unusual micro-organisms. These are rare diseases due to genetic mutations and their diagnosis is often missed. Many patients can be helped by replacing immunoglobulins and treating infections.
Other musculoskeletal syndromes
Musculoskeletal problems are the most common reason for people in the community to visit their doctors. These may arise from cartilage degeneration due to wear and tear (osteoarthritis) which affects up to 15% of the population. Diseases such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease are themselves associated with peculiar musculoskeletal conditions.
